Head Start Funding Opportunities Now Available

In April, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced the availability of Head Start funding in 97 Head Start service areas across the country. The funding opportunities announced today are open to all eligible organizations, and applicants have 90 days to submit their grant proposals online through www.Grants.gov.

A second group of funding opportunities was announced in May, along with five pilot projects. The Office of Head Start is using this approach to plan potential transitions at natural breaks in services, minimizing disruptions to children, families and staff. Funding opportunity announcements for all of the opportunities are posted on ACF’s Funding Opportunities site.

In an effort to provide relevant information and support for all applicants, the Office of Head Start has created an Applicant Support Website. This interactive website offers a robust collection of resources intended to support organizations in gaining a deeper understanding of the Head Start and Early Head Start programs, the funding opportunity announcement, and the evaluation criteria for health and safety, fiscal integrity, and measures of Head Start classroom quality.
